What Is a Quilted Jacket?
A quilted jacket is a full-sleeve, lightweight insulated jacket, usually filled with synthetic wadding stitched into a diamond quilt pattern to stop it shifting. It's designed to be worn on its own in mild-to-cool weather, or as a mid-layer under a waterproof shell in winter. Because it has full sleeves, it works as a stand-alone coat for dog walking, the school run or everyday country wear.
What Is a Padded Gilet?
A padded gilet (or body warmer) is the sleeveless version - the same quilted insulation, but stopping at the shoulder. Leaving the arms free makes it a favourite for anyone working with their hands: loading a Land Rover, handling dogs, fencing or yard work, where sleeves just get in the way.
