Treksta walking boots with BOA dials are among the most searched-for boots we sell. If you have wondered how a dial can replace laces, whether it is reliable, and what the other Treksta features mean, this guide covers it.
What is the BOA Fit System?
The BOA Fit System replaces traditional laces with three parts: a dial on the outside of the boot, a thin steel cable, and guides that route the cable around the foot. Turn the dial clockwise and the cable winds in, drawing the guides together in small, even steps. Pull the dial up and it releases fully in one motion.
Benefits of BOA boots
- Fast and precise: micro-adjust the fit mid-walk, even with gloves on.
- Even pressure: the cable spreads tension across the foot, which can reduce pressure points.
- No knots: nothing to come undone or freeze.
- Durable: the hardware is covered by a lifetime guarantee from BOA, and replacement cable kits are available.
Things to know
A BOA dial cannot be fitted to a normal lace-up boot, so choose it when buying. It is still worth getting the size and width right first, because the dial adjusts tension but does not change boot shape.

What else makes Treksta different?
Treksta is a South Korean outdoor footwear brand founded in 1988, with its trekking boots launched in the 1990s. Key technologies you will see on our boots:
- NestFIT: a last designed from 3D scans of 20,000 feet, giving a natural toe box so toes can spread. Treksta claims 23% less foot pressure and 31% less muscle fatigue versus conventional trekking shoes.
- Hypergrip: a rubber outsole compound designed to give grip without sacrificing durability.
- GTX (Gore-Tex): a waterproof, breathable membrane for wet UK walks.
- Ice Lock: an outsole feature for extra grip on icy ground.
Choosing the right boot
For general UK hillwalking, choose a mid or high cut GTX boot with good ankle support. For lighter walking, a 6 inch height is plenty. Read our full walking boots buying guide and browse all walking boots.
